One government department fines another! The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) have been hit with an IR35 tax bill of almost £90m by HMRC. It has come to light that DWP tested employment status of workers using HMRC’s own tool – and yet still came to the wrong answer. One has to wonder what HMRC will do with the money…presumably DWP now need £90m to plug the gap this creates!
